A Short Christmas Story Shared by Nathen's Great Grandparents,
Elmer & Ginny, Called "Baby's Hug"

_________________________________________________

Amanda,

I am glad to read that Nathen has seen an increase in his WBC already.  Any number up means the start of an upward trend, and that is always a good thing, because that may mean getting to go home may not be too far away!

Your website is so wonderful!  As your website says, faith is like electricity, and I am thankful for you that you can know this to be true.  Your Nathen will prove to you daily how great every moment is and can be, even the moments when others tell you things you don't won't to hear or believe.  Although you have to hear and know those things, you don't have to let anyone take your hope away.  Every moment is precious.  Take lots of pictures so when Nathen has defeated this you can look back and see all that you have beaten.

with great hope,
Denise Persons

Hey there Nathen,
Hope you are doing well and feeling strong this week.  Instead of writing "you are in my prayers" I figured I would write out a prayer for you. Here it goes:

"Dear Lord, We come to you today to lift up Nathen and his family to you. We know you are the king and creator of all things and we ask for your special blessing in healing little Nathen's body at this time. I would ask for you to send a legion of your Angels to guard him at all times but today I only ask that you send one. We ask that you send your most powerful and kind Angel to stand guard of Nathen, his family and the doctors that will work with him. Gift this Angel with the strength to intervene through the hands and minds of Nathen's doctors as well as through Nathen's body itself. We pray that this messenger of yours would personally work in Nathen's little body and wage war against this "ailment" that has fallen upon him. We know this special guardian will be victorious and that this little man will walk free of this ailment and go on to glorify your name and help encourage others that face the challenges we know you will help him conquer! In your name we pray, Amen"

A rainbow outside your window waits
Colors so rich and full of grace
Birds fly under her luminous arc of beauty
Free to discover the depth of her untold story
Close your eyes and travel to the rainbow's end
Once there you discover your journey has yet to begin
For what you know of the world with eyes open
Is but a puddle in your dream world's ocean
Whenever you feel the world's burdens too great
Remember the rainbow and her loving embrace
Close your eyes to the dark and open her door
To a world full of light for your soul to explore.

'The Shelter of Your Wings'

Psalm 61
Assurance of God's Protection

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to you, when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I;
for you are my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.

Let me abide in your tent forever,
find refuge under the shelter of your wings. Selah
For you, O God, have heard my vows;
you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

Prolong the life of the king;
may his years endure to all generations!
May he be enthroned forever before God;
appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him!

So I will always sing praises to your name, as I pay my vows
 day after day.

Carolyn:  I am sending this to you in case it doesn't go through for me from here at work, if they don't get it, I ask that you please pass it on to them for me.  They are all in my thoughts and prayers every day.   Thanks.

Good Mornin' Amanda & Chris.  I am Jan Aylor, Kenney's  mom.  As I read this piece this morning - I thought of how your "little Nathan" could very well be the whale in this story (also one of God's creations) and his doctors and nurses are his rescuers and one day he too will be able to thank each one of them with a little nudge or hug or a stare from his beautiful little eyes.

Keep your faith. I have a lot of people praying for him.  I believe in both the power of prayer and miracles.

The Whale

If you read the front page story of the SF Chronicle, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines.

She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help.

Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her ... a very dangerous proposition.

One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.

They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.

When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles.

She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushing them gently around-she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.

The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate ... to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you.

And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.

I pass this on to you, my friend, in the same spirit.

When people pray together,
it's so they can be heard.

It gives strength to the deliverance,
and power to the word.

So keep good thoughts, day and night,
no fear to be your host.

When it all comes down to it,
what you believe will count the most!

Nathen, I Believe!

love, your Nana

Grandkids - sent in by Nana in Tampa Fl

My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, "77".

He was quiet for a moment, then he asked, "Did you start at 1?"

After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair.

As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin.

At last she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings.

As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?"

A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like:

We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard.

We rode our pony.

We picked wild raspberries in the woods."

The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this in. Finally she spoke, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, "Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?"

I mentally polished my halo while I asked, "No, how are we alike?"

"You're both old," he replied.

A little girl was diligently pounding away on her grandfather's word processor. She told him she was writing a story.

"What's it about?" he asked.

"I don't know," she replied. "You know I can't read yet."

I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her.

I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me, and she was always correct.

But it was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying sagely,

"Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!"

A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments.

They were ready to discuss the last one. The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was.

Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted, "Thou shall not take the
covers off thy neighbor's wife."

Our five-year-old grandson couldn't wait to tell his grandfather about the movie he had watched on television, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."

The scenes with the submarine and the giant octopus kept him wide-eyed.

In the middle of his telling, grandpa interrupted him, "What caused the submarine to sink?"

With a look of incredulity the grandson replied, "Grandpa, it was the 20,000 leaks!!"

When my grandson Billy and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects.

Still, a few fireflies followed us in.

Noticing them before I did, Billy whispered, "It's too late, grandpa, the mosquitoes are coming after us with flashlights."

When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, "I'm not sure."

"Look in your underwear, Grandma," he advised.

"Mine says I'm four to six."

A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother,

"Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today."

The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool even though she was worried what the child may have been told.

"That's interesting," she said, "How do you make babies?"

"It's simple," replied the girl. "You just change the y to i and add es.

"Give me a sentence about a public servant," said a teacher.

The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant."

The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked.

"Sure," said the young boy confidently. "It means carrying a Child!"

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past.

Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog's duties.

They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster.

"No, said another, "he's just for good luck."

A third child brought the argument to a close.

"They use the dog," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant."
